Venous Lake

Venous lake is a frequent, soft, tender, blue-violet lesion that is found in uncovered areas of the skin or in the ears of elderly patients.

The lesions may appear suddenly and are sensitive. Lesions located in the mucous membrane of the lips are susceptible to repeated injuries when the patient talks or eats.

Exposure to sunlight and the reduction of skin elasticity may play a role in the development of venous lakes.

Often, patients are afraid of malignancy due to the dark color of the lesions. The examination by the specialist will reassure them.

Lesions are treated with surgical removal and histological examination, with excellent aesthetic results.
