Breast Reduction
Breast reduction is the surgical procedure that reduces the size of the breasts and lifts the nipple-areola complex to a normal position.
With this aesthetic rejuvenation of the breasts, the mental benefits to the patient are important, and many daily problems that are caused by the large size and weight of the breasts are addressed, such as:
- neck and/or back pain
- dermatitis in the inframammary fold
- difficulties in sports
- restrictions on clothing
- numbness in the hands
- shoulder footprint of the bra
- mastodynia
- difficulty in breathing
Before surgery and depending on the age of the patient, ultrasonic examination or mammography is performed to control the mammary glands.
The surgery is done with general anesthesia and lasts from 2½ to 3 hours.
We use the appropriate technique, as appropriate:
- the excess of mammary gland, fat and skin is removed
- the breasts are remodeled
- the nipple-areola complex is lifted to a normal position
- the breasts are reformed
The incisions are located around the breast areola and down into the inframammary fold, in the shape of an inverted “T”.
The chest in the first 24 hours is bandaged. The next day, the bandage is removed and a sports bra is placed, the use of which continues for 1 month.
Initially there is a mild swelling that strengthens the image of the size of the breasts. In the next 2 to 3 months, with the absorbtion of swellings, we have a more complete picture of the result.
After a few days of breast lifting, we can return to light work while exercise is allowed after 4-6 weeks.
Breast reduction decreases the risk of developing breast cancer as the volume of the mammary gland is diminished.
With the breast reduction the woman regains her self-confidence.
